How is dash cam installed? What is it recording?
Dash cameras (digital video recorders) are mounted on the front windshield of our vehicles (tractors) that are used to perform carriage of goods by road. Dash cams are pointed forward to capture what is going on outside the front windshield.

When is dash cam recording?
Dash cameras are intended to record the video outside the front windshield during the periods when the vehicle is driving on a public road, unless recording is not permitted by local law.

What is the purpose of recording and the legal basis for it?
Dash cams are used for accident liability purposes only. In the event of road traffic accident or other incidence in which our vehicle might get involved while on the road, the recorded footage can help us objectively establish the relevant facts and circumstances. The legal basis for this processing is pursuing our legitimate interests.

Storage period
Footage records are kept in the SD card. After the card’s available storage runs out, which typically happens in 10-24 hours, the dash cam starts overwriting the oldest files, so we always have a record of the most recent drive. We never review the footage records or make copies of it, unless an accident is captured and we need to defend our legitimate interests (e.g. damage is cause to our company, its property, the goods being transported or third parties). If this is a case, a copy of a relevant record may be saved and stored until the accident is fully investigated.

Sharing dash cam footage
The footage of an accident may be shared with our insurers, legal advisors, loss adjusters, surveyors, parties involved in the accident, the police or other law enforcement bodies investigating the accident.
